HSOSC- At Downtown’s Farmers Market

Saturday, November 18th, 2006

Downtown Sarasota Farmers MarketA beautiful day, today the Historical Society of Sarasota County hosted the non for profit booth at the downtown’s farmer market and a good time was had by all. Thanks to Pres. Arnie Berns, Board Member Jane Kirschner-Tuccillo (pictured) and members Marg & Bill Markman (pictured) for helping me man the booth. Sarasota’s farmers market is held every Saturday from 7am-12noon downtown along Main Street and Lemon Ave. Vendors sell a wide range of products from fresh fruits and veggies, to flowers and live plants, artwork, baked goods, fresh seafood, spices, and much more. It’s a fun morning worth checking out! For more info visit the Downtown Partnership.

Wednesday, October 18th, 2006

Relocation of Sarasota's Historic BuildingsThe early hours of the morning of today resulted in a great accomplishment for the Historical Society of Sarasota County (HSOSC). It’s been alot of work and a long time coming but this morning the historic Bidwell-Wood House and the Crocker Memorial Church were hoisted onto moving trucks and moved through the streets of downtown Sarasota.Bidwell-Wood House & Crocker Memorial Church Relocation

With all the prep work done the move went smoothly during the hours of 2am-6am attended by several of us in our pajamas! Recognized as two of Sarasota’s oldest building the Bidwell-Wood House and Crocker Memorial Church were relocated to avoid demolition making way for a new development. The building’s new location in Pioneer Park will serve as the official home of the HSOSC whose goals include creating a facility here for the community to connect with its history and to host restoration projects on the buildings. The entire moving event was filmed by National Geographic and is expected to air worldwide in March 2007.
