HSOSC Relocates the Bidwell-Wood House & Crocker Memorial Church
The early hours of the morning of today resulted in a great accomplishment for the Historical Society of Sarasota County (HSOSC). It’s been alot of work and a long time coming but this morning the historic Bidwell-Wood House and the Crocker Memorial Church were hoisted onto moving trucks and moved through the streets of downtown Sarasota.
With all the prep work done the move went smoothly during the hours of 2am-6am attended by several of us in our pajamas! Recognized as two of Sarasota’s oldest building the Bidwell-Wood House and Crocker Memorial Church were relocated to avoid demolition making way for a new development. The building’s new location in Pioneer Park will serve as the official home of the HSOSC whose goals include creating a facility here for the community to connect with its history and to host restoration projects on the buildings. The entire moving event was filmed by National Geographic and is expected to air worldwide in March 2007.
